Dr Roger Buckton was an adjunct associate professor at the University of Canterbury and lectured in ethnomusicology, music education and musicianship. He continues to perform on the dudelsack alongside other instruments of early music.
After years of research and performance, his book ‘Bohemian Journey: A Musical Heritage In Colonial New Zealand’ was published in 2013 with a second edition being published in 2025, Also in 2025 (with co-authors Ralf Heimrath and Judith Williams) ‘After Winter Comes The Summer: Puhoi’s Musical Heritage In Song, Rhyme And Dance’ was published in both New Zealand and Germany. His aim is to promote the songs and music so that these unique Kiwi-Bohemian musical gems can take their place in the multicultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand
